Letter to Officials

24.03.2020

Dear Friends

I hope and wish that everyone in Officiating family, and all your family members and friends have no major issues during this time of challenge. Without a doubt the current and short-term future will be a significant time in our lives, we must listen to the advice and self-isolate in an effort to reduce the long-term effects of this disease.

My wish for the future is to bring a ray of sunshine back to our officiating family; to turn away from our existing problems and take a new look at our beloved game, and basketball officiating.

We have been working tirelessly since the season was interrupted to prepare a plan for the foreseeable future and my thoughts are below.

Physical Conditioning

Haris, David and Alejandro are working to prepare material that will help you maintain your physical activity in the current limited environments. This will hopefully give you some time to focus and 'clear your head' from the problems around you.

Video Observers

They are continuing their great work and preparing educational material which will analyse the positive elements of your work as well as material to help improve our weaknesses. The material will be based around the POE for the season with additional detail.

The VO's will also be contacting you to have 'face to face' conversations. These conversations will be based around your games and performances, so it will be important for you to look back at your self-evaluations, VO reports and game clips to prepare for your discussions.

Your thoughts and ideas

Please do not hesitate to send me your thoughts and ideas for how we can provide a better service to our ''customers''. We all work in different environments where 'things' are done in different ways and I would expect that there are 'things' we do that you feel could/should be done differently or better. Please share your thoughts.

All season I have returned to one statement as a focus for our officiating - 'Keep your discipline'. In the current situation we are in, this is a very strong and true statement to make and live by. Everyone is being told to stay in the house, so let us 'keep our discipline' and stay in, this will help protect yourself and your families.

My sincere wishes that we all get through this safely.
