Weekly Report - 3

24.10.2022

Dear Referees.

Thank you for your performances in BCL games GD 3. Also, thank you for your job in other FIBA Europe Club Competitions. Mostly, we have appropriate performances level, with a lower level of judgment in some play situations. Nothing spectacular, but in those situations, can be recognized over relaxed approach to the game. I don't like that it will be an avalanche for the upcoming games.

Video Observers' feedback, BCL GD03:

IRS usage & Coach Challenge

Coach Challenge - we had 6 times Coach's requests. No one correction of the original decision. All final decisions were correct.

IRS usage - we had 6 times IRS usage initiated by the Referees. One final decision was incorrect.

Two times Referees didn't respect the IRS Protocol.

UF decisions

In eight games, we had ten UF situations. Eight of them with the final proper decision. Two of them were incorrect.

Please, don't be over the pressure to have a ''microscope'' approach, and how was in one UF decision - we converted marginal call to UF. Again, use decision making protocol, use IRS, be with the emotional discipline.

Positive

The main point as positive is game control. It means that the referees did a good job. First with the proper, consistent criteria, and final good decisions (call and no call). Also, I like to point out the proper approach and behavior of the players and coaches toward the referees.

It means that there exists mutual respect and trust.

To improve

From four games, the same main point was - an unnecessary double whistle decisions. It means a lack of personal and emotional discipline. To solve it is a very easy way - follow the Protocols.

Some other details to improve, different from game to game, as:

  • Block vs. Charge situations
  • Missed calls in AOS situations, off the ball situations
  • Better selection of the contact to increase performances level one step higher

Dear Referees.

In the upcoming period, during the next few rounds, we'll more and more nominate our young or younger colleagues. Part of my expectations will be full support from experienced colleagues. With the young colleagues' potential, and the support of the experienced colleagues will not exist any reason to have problems in officiating. All of you, as Elite FIBA Referees, mandatory should show your quality and concentration to be the best team on the court.

Another detail, I like to point out again - ''Each point counts''. Please, no relax at any moment of the game. We need to respect all teams, also we should show that we are a trustful partner in the BCL competition.

I wish to all of us success in our service delivery through all clubs' competitions this week.
