COACH CHALLENGE

REFEREES' IRS USAGE

MY COMMENTS

First, thank you to all Referees from the BCL who officiated last week in the FIBA Europe Cup games. The Europe Cup is an important competition for FIBA Europe and deserves our best performances in every game. Last week we had the final games of the FEC Regular season with some very important and challenging games, and we matched the teams' performances by our own very high standard of officiating. Feedback about the performances of the nominated Referees from the Elite group has been very positive. All 23 nominated BCL Referees attained the necessary, and expected, high performance level.

The characteristic of BCL GD Nov 29/30 is that we had corrections, upgrades, of 9 Referees' original decisions for PF to UF. The number of the upgrading decisions is increasing, and we have discussed if this should be a concern. On one side, it is good to have proper final decision, decided through the approved tool. On the other side, increased number of the IRS final, changed decisions, can be sign of OUR weakness, Are we becoming over reliant? During the upcoming period we'll carefully monitor the development of the IRS usage.

In front of us, in each Group, we have the last 2 Regular Season games:

Groups A, B, C, F - Dec 6/7 and Dec 20/21

Groups D, E, G, H - Dec 13/14 and Dec 20/21

Now, from 16 spots in the Round of 16, we have only 1 qualified team, so in next 2 rounds will be decided the final 15 teams who will participant in the Round of 16.

So, in front of us we have 32 exciting games, with the principle 'each and every' point counts. For us, as the officiating team, it means a great responsibility, and ultimate reason to provide the highest possible performances.

Dear Referees, for the last game day of the BCL Regular Season, Dec 20/21, we need 48 Referees plus 8 stand-by Refs. All other Referees will be nominated for the FIBA Europe Cup games. Please, let me know if any of you will not be available. I hope you can recognize that in this period we need all BCL Referees.

I wish all nominated Referees for the games Dec 06/07, very successful and strong officiating. Be the best we can be.

Davorin
