WEEKLY REPORT - 9

19.12.2022

Dear Referees.

Thank you for your positive performances last week. From the VOs' reports, we can see 18 performances in 8 games were assessed as "above standard", and 5 met our basic standard. Unfortunately, we had 1 below-standard performance. This game created a big complaint from one of our Clubs, with strong, valid arguments. Obviously, this was painful for me but more importantly, this was very painful for the Club and their players.

If you remember, or if you read over my previous letter, I spoke of increased tensions, attacks, tricks, and fake being fouled situations. This happened and we weren't ready, it was like déjà vu. For me the disappointment is that as a Group of observers, and as your Supervisor, we have a great amount of experience, and we try to share with you this experience so you don't make the same mistakes that we made or any of your predecessors may have made, but still some officials decide to follow their own path and make their own story. So again, I will reiterate, this WILL happen this week. It means our readiness, concentration, and decisions should be on the top level. There is NO time for correction by the players, coaches, or referees...

Below is this week's feedback from your Video Observers:

UF SITUATIONS

As you can recognize in the last two Weekly Letters, we didn't put our focus on the UF situations area. The reason is UF is not anything different from other elements in our officiating. To confirm it, I can tell you that in eight games, GD 09, we had four UF situations. All four with the correct final decision.

But this week we can expect everything so be ready for the proper judgment of the actions linked to the UF criteria.

IRS USAGE - REFEREES

Nine times we had IRS usage initiated by the Referees. In two situations we made necessary corrections, and in the end, we had all nine situations with the correct final decision.

IRS usage, especially this week, is an important tool, it can save the game and can help us ensure the correct decision has been made. Don't hesitate to use it to clarify not clear and important for the game situations. With the note: IRS usage should be according to valid Protocol and Regulations.

HEAD COACH CHALLENGE

Last week, in eight games, we had six HCC. In one situation Referees made the necessary change, a corrected throw-in after the out of bounds situation.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

These feedbacks are a mixture of the various topics:

  1. Communication and Protocol before IRS review.
  2. Unnecessary situations of a double whistle. This can be the result of a lack of concentration, no trust between the team members, or no respect of our fundamentals. The significant point is that the same feedback came from five games.
  3. Marginal calls - are killing the beauty of our sport. Unnecessary stoppage of the game flow. Also, MCs make our players disappointed. MCs are creating a bad image of your officiating.

OFFICIATING BY MARKS, GD 1 - GD 09

On the one side we can be satisfied with the overall data:

The feedback is from the 76 games.

By the numbers we have:

Dear Referees.

We have spoken all season about making our STANDARD, ABOVE STANDARD officiating. ABOVE STANDARD will become STANDARD for us if we continue to pursue greater performances. I know that reporting formula is very tough, but it is our mandatory obligation to the BCL so we can visually see our future steps and aspirations. Our BCL competition, the teams, players, coaches, and the fans are deserving of this next, higher step in our upcoming performances.

The first possibility is coming this week. We have decisive "every point count" games. A lot of teams are fighting for Play-Ins status, and some of teams are playing for the direct L-16 status. For us, as Referees, it is a great privilege and recognition of your consistent hard work to be part of the exciting end of the BCL Regular Season. On the other side, it is a big responsibility to provide the top service until the last part of the second of each game.

With this note, I wish you great officiating, and we must be the best TEAM in each Game.
