WEEKLY REPORT - GD6

15.11.2021

Dear Referees.

Behind us are 56 BCL regular season games and we are only at week 06. Ahead of us is still the unknown but we are drawing upon the hard work of the whole BCL Team; our officials and our Video Observers to provide us with comprehensive evidence of where we are and where we still need to aspire to. Last week we mainly had the standard level of officiating that we expect but we also witnessed, for the first time this season, the influence of PRESSURE.

Why is the pressure of results, time, coaches, players, fans, personal or colleagues' mistakes in my focus? This is certainly something you must manage.

In round 06, we had mistakes in 'money time' situations, in the L2M when our concentration must be at its peak, when we had worked so hard and delivered a very good or excellent service to our Clubs, players, and coaches only to hit a bump in the L2M and a decisive decision is wrong. One call had an impact on the result and changed the winning Team.

In R06 we had this situation in 2 games, the first case we were lucky, our mistake in the L2M didn't make influence on the game's winner (game TENERIFE vs. PROMETEY)

In the second, our guess call in AOS control decided the winner (game NYMBURK vs. MPH).

We must have in our mind set the notion of, in any sport, the winners are those who are the best until the last second, ball, meter, decision....

Here you can find the data collected from your Video Observers:

1. IRS USAGE

2. UF

In 4 games we didn't have any UF decisions.

Total UF decisions - 5, one was incorrect.

3. AREAS TO IMPROVE

  • Reduce/avoid the marginal calls.
  • Too many double whistles in obvious play situations.
  • Active mindset, calmness, concentration in L2M situations.
  • Ignorance/no reaction after unappropriate behaviour by the coaches or players. Protests were mainly after a correct decision by the officials.

Some of my additional remarks and thoughts:

FOCUS ON POE

Overall, I can say that we have the correct focus on the decided POE for the Season 21/22.

Our Coaches asked for more focus on the area of travel violations where the offence gains an illegal advantage. The request was accepted by the Referee Department. Your focus and decisions in this area have been much better compared with previous seasons. Your decisions (travel violations) are accepted by the players and coaches. The main number of your decisions are correct, they are inside the decided box, but what is in our box for improvement?

Our improvement box has been split into 2 areas:

  • The Microscope approach and decision by feeling, with no advantage/disadvantage.
  • Wrong processing, travel violation happened, with a big illegal advantage, but no call by the Referees.

Dear Referees,

After the GD 07 we'll have a break from the BCL season, but this leads to the WCQR National Teams Games. Immediately after the QR games, comes the last 3 rounds of the BCL RS. All this in less than one month. What does it mean for us all? It means a lot of challenges, a lot of tough games, tough situations, high levels of emotion from the players, coaches, and fans that will add pressure to your officiating. Remember you have the tools, the knowledge, the skills, required to produce top performances in every game, every quarter, every minute and every second. You are our Best.

With trust and confidence that you'll provide the required high-level of service, we are wishing you great games during this period.
