WEEKLY REPORT - PLAY INS GD1

Dear Referees.

Looking back to last week we had a mixture of situations; Play-Ins GD1, RS games and postponed games. Looking forward to this week we will have similar, scheduled games and postponed games. We only need to listen to the news across Europe to know that Omicron is spreading and the number of infections increasing. I'm certain that like me, you are all witnessing the difficulties this is causing to our everyday lives.

This week in the BCL and FIBA Europe Competitions we have 35 games scheduled, 15 of these games are postponed but we, the players, the Clubs, and you, were ready for this. We expect the expected.

When you stepped onto the courts last week your readiness and desire to give your best performances was visible in all BCL games. In the Play-Ins games, with all the additional pressures, I witnessed a calm but assertive approach with good communication and a positive image. From my side, as I watched the games, I was calm and had full trust in your abilities and as the last game ended, I was satisfied with our customer service for another week. Of course, with the given corrections from our Video Observers

Video Observers main inputs:

POSITIVE

  • Game control - with correct decisions which is most important
  • Decisions - calls selection, criteria in money time, off the ball contacts, AOS control

TO IMPROVE

  • Violations - focus on travelling with advantage; travelling with 'feeling' that was a violation

IRS USAGE

  • IRS usage per game - 1.15, all were conclusive (total = 8)
  • Initial decisions changed - 2 from 8
  • Respected Protocol (6), out of the Protocol (2)

IRS usage out of the IRS Protocol can be dangerous, Teams can use this to protest. So, please be careful, follow the IRS Protocol. I want to ask you study again what is included in the IRS Protocol.

  • Incorrect final decision - 2 situations, both were conclusive.

IRS is a luxury for the Refs. Please, use this technology so we get the correct final decision 100% of the time.

UF CRITERIA

  • We had 6 UF situations, all with correct final decision
  • 1 Personal foul was upgraded to UF - wrong decision

Again, we have some normal/accepted number of the UF situations. UF is becoming 'no big deal'. All participants are educated, with the accepted criteria. From our side we just need to follow UF criteria.

Dear Referees, this week, and especially next week we have some very decisive games, 'live or die' situations for our Clubs. It's a great opportunity to enjoy the challenges and the responsibility that these games bring. We must be ready for every game, quarter, minute and second. Also, next month we have some important qualification National Teams games plus more tough BCL Competition, all these games will be an opportunity for you to show your high-quality officiating.
