WEEKLY REPORT - Round of 16 - 4

14.03.2022

Dear Colleagues.

Another intensive week of BCL Competition is behind us. We must keep our focus and maintain the very good service we have provided in this 2021/22 season

From my side, as Referee Manager, I was very satisfied to see you were following, and applying, our seasons POE, plus trying to correct the points from my last Weekly Report. Together we will continue to improve and be better than our previous games. We now have two rounds left before the end of the last 16 part of the BCL Competition, we don't have a 100% qualified team for Quarter Final Round. ( Except Group K, where, unfortunately, now has only 3 Teams)

Someone asked me recently about the BCL Competition and why it had grown so quickly, my reply was simple. I told them the beauty of our BCL Competition is the highly intensive games, the passionate players, coaches, and spectators and the unbiased officiating in every single game. This is such a big contributor to the great BCL image that is being created, and your part in this should not be underestimated. The current statistics are showing that in the Play-ins games, also in 3 rounds of L16, we have a ratio of 58% vs. 42% of the wins, home vs. guest team. Another detail is 26% of our games finished with a 5 or less points differences.

POINTS FOR IMPROVEMENT BY VIDEO OBSERVERS:

  • CONTACTS

- minimize possible unnecessary calls - ''easy, marginal, cheap''

- UF: use IRS when you have doubt

  • MECHANICS

- discipline in primary

- make the rotation because of your proper active mindset

REFEREE MANAGER'S POINTS:

In the last Tough Calls selection, you can find all our important messages. All of us must aim for maximum concentration, ready for all the expected, and unexpected, game situations in the last 2 rounds of L16. We must not be surprised by any players or coaches' actions. In this part of the Season, you have enough information about each team, player, and coach to not be surprised but this will only happen if we prepare, read the game, and have an active mindset for 40 minutes. If a situation arises where we must use the IRS, be calm, know what you are looking for, and be wise with elements in our criteria.

Finally let me say, anyone can make a mistake, we will make mistakes but OUR job, especially now at the end of the season, is to reduce the number of mistakes. Most importantly are those decisive moments at the end of the game, maintain your concentration, individually and as part of a team. As top FIBA and BCL Referees you can manage any BCL game, any situation in any BCL game, you just have to do it. I hope you know that you have my upmost trust; your nominations should be telling you this.

Dear Colleagues,

In the next two rounds, I know you will provide your best possible officiating, so be confident, be calm, and be brave. Follow the ''Eagle mentality''.
