WEEKLY REPORT - ROUND OF 16 - 5

21.03.2022

Dear Colleagues.

Our Seasonal BCL marathon is close to the end; we are just completing an intense and exciting L16. Some teams have already qualified for the QF, others have a big battle to reach the next level. As with previous L16 rounds, last week's games were tough, well-matched competitions with close results and, as expected, we saw a lot of emotion from players, coaches, spectators. From the Video Observers' reports I can see that games were officiated to our standard or above standard expectations; thank you for your hard work and efforts. My opinion, after watching all the games is that we, as an officiating body, had a successful week and our customer service was according our standards. Of course, in each game, we have some points for improvement which were recognized within your honest analysis and visible in the Video Observers' Reports.

CRITERIA - UF

From the last two rounds' feedback I can see a few mistakes in our final decisions. These situations have already been discussed between the Crew and nominated Video Observer. In our upcoming pre-season Clinic, planned for the middle of August, we'll discuss all questionable situations. From my side, I believe you focused on ensuring the correct procedure was followed, a good evaluation of the situation made which led to a very high percentage of correct final decisions. There was no rushing to decide as you realized the most important element is the correct final decision.

IRS USAGE

Characteristics GD5 of the L16, shows we were successful with our final decisions in 10 out of 11 situations, after IRS usage

POINTS FOR IMPROVEMENT

  • Keep the same criteria during entire game
  • Control of behavior - demonstrative signs of disagreement, from the beginning of the game
  • Recognition of ugly but normal situations
  • Control and work on - fake being fouled situations, head fake, offensive arm lock

Dear Colleagues.

Q - What can we expect in the next 2 days?

A - High-intensity games, full of emotions, pressure, and tight results.

Q - What should we be ready for?

A - Dealing with conflicts. Conflicts between players, as result of disappointment and as an attempt to influence on our decisions. Complaints against our correct decisions. Excuses directed towards us by Clubs and coaches rather than understanding that in that game they weren't quite good enough. As experienced, top Referees you know very well the possible tools which could be used during the games, I would encourage respectful communication, common sense, and assertiveness along with discipline in our fundamentals and excellent judgement.

I am expecting your concentration and smartness from the opening tip off until the last tenth of the last second in all our games. Above everything should stand for fairness, equitability, and a 50:50 approach. Now is the time to deliver the highest level of quality. You should follow our POE and directions delivered through the season. In this last part of the L16 we, and the teams, don't have the luxury to be relaxed. Stay concentrated and be ready for the expected situations. Make these games your best, apply all our inputs, use the experience you have gained and most importantly enjoy, these games are why we referee. I am expecting that after the end of each game, our Referees' teams will have been the best team on the court.

I wish you good preparation, high delivery, and luck.
